I have always been quite annoyed at hearing people say "he lost his battle to cancer". I always thought it diminished the hard work, determination, persistence and courage that cancer patients embody. Check out this article - it speaks to my thoughts!

Interesting thoughts in the article Lorna. I am not sure I agree with it all but do see the differences in the cliches used.
ReplyDeleteFor me, all the comments about cancer, cancer survivors and those who have died either directly because of the disease, the cure or complications of the two previous seem cliche to me.
I find it almost a marketing ploy by newspapers, disease agencies and society itself to have a sound bite that will stick in people's mind. Truly it does stick in our mind and so merchandise power is born and donations are given as they seek to empower those that have the disease or those who are supporters of the person because in the end, we all feel powerless when our loved ones and friends have no real guarantee of survival against a disease that is senseless.
I can see my pain in my thoughts above but it has felt good to express it, I hope you don't mind. :)
